This course on map reading and interpretation includes both theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical component provides students with fundamental concepts such as map scales, symbols, coordinate systems, and spatial understanding. The practical sessions are designed to develop hands-on skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting different types of maps.
During practical sessions, students will engage in activities such as measuring distances, identifying features, and working with coordinates. Therefore, all students are required to bring essential materials, including a ruler and a calculator, to effectively complete the exercises.

The course is designed to provide the students of Civic and Ethical Education with detailed knowledge on three key concepts; namely; society, state, and government. To this end, it starts by discussing the concepts of society, analyzing the core attributes of society, and reviewing the major contending theories of society. The course will also enable the students to comprehensively define the idea of state by discussing its main elements, reviewing the major theories on the origin and development of state, discussing the various forms of state structure. More specifically, the course will deeply and critically discuss the concepts, attributes and merits/demerits of unitary, federalism and confederalism. It then goes on to the discussion of the concept of Government. Here, the course focuses on defining government, describing its major purposes and functions, discussing its major forms of power division and arrangements (horizontal Vs. vertical) and discussing the nature of two modern systems of government- parliamentary and presidential systems. Finally, the course presents the complex conceptual and practical relationships among the concepts state, government and society by specifically focusing on the modern history of state formation and nation building of Ethiopia
